Boys & Girls Club Fundraiser

The Annual Boys and Girls Club Fund Raiser auction and barn dance at Lee and Kathleen Blumel Hoffpauir's barn on Saturday was a huge success. The live auction and various raffles and silent auction items, along with the $100 ticket cost brought a huge amount of cash for the operation of the local Boys and Girls Club.

Total funds-raised numbers are not available yet but we heard someone say the number will go well above $100 thousand.

The local club is depended on by many working mothers of school age children, not only for affordable child care, but for help with school lessons and for sports and mentoring activities.

Buckle Up, Please!

The 15th annual Click It or Ticket Campaign starts today.

The campaign reminds Texans to buckle up every time they get in a vehicle. Buckling up saves lives, and can protect motorists from receiving a citation for not wearing a safety belt.

Lampasas Police Department will be joining forces with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) and other police departments and sheriff’s departments across Texas to save lives on Texas highways by working to increase seat belt use. From May 23 to June 5th officers with the Lampasas Police Department, along with other law enforcement agencies, are stepping up their efforts to ticket anyone who isn’t wearing a seat belt.

 Monday Meetings

When Lampasas County Commissioners met in the courthouse this morning, they handled some pretty routine business. On the agenda was a request for bids on aggregate road materials and for gas and diesel to be delivered. There were to be reports from the Treasurer on Investment Policy and an employee matter on a donation of personal time from county employees to other county employees. A subdivision clarification was to be requested by a landowner, and the Central Texas Council of Governments is wanting to address some more Private Roads. We'll have the complete report in our Tuesday news.

Lampasas City Council will meet this afternoon at 5:30pm and go into executive session to discuss litigation with the Kempner Water Supply Corp. and an un-named economic development deal with a prospective business.

In a workshop that follows the group will discuss the City's Capital Improvement Program for FY 2017 thru 2021.

In regular session there is a property rezoning public hearing that would create commercial zoning on an acre of land at Mills and Brown street that is currently listed as agricultural.

Other matters include reports and discussion and possible action on architectural plans for the Old City Hall building and a resolution approving a change in ATMOS (natural gas) rates for customers in Lampasas. Among the routine items are the purchase of two Ford pickups with utility beds, a new John Deere commercial Ztrak mower, a new Kustom in-car camera/recording system and a change in internet service.
